
Egypt has always been a cosmopolitan nation hosting different cultures and peoples. Across the ages, Egypt has always been a refuge for people seeking peace, harmony, prosperity and security. In the modern history of Egypt in the past 2 centuries, Egypt was a main destination for Greeks, Italians and Armenian people seeking to live in a better atmosphere with business opportunities … and the Egyptian Armenian community in Egypt is definitely an example of such integration of peoples and cultures.
The story dates back when Egypt decided to host any Armenian seeking refuge from oppression and ethnic cleansing. Many Armenians decided to go to Egypt as it is famous for being an open-minded, friendly, and warm-hearted society welcoming other friendly peoples and nations. Today, the Armenians are fully integrated into the Egyptian society. Many Egyptians nowadays have Armenian origins and many Armenian Orthodox churches around major cities in Egypt (like Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said, etc.), many Armenian schools and clubs exist to cater to this fabulous culture in Egypt. The Egyptian Armenians quickly integrated into society creating some of the most successful businesses and initiatives in Egypt which had a very positive impact on Egyptian lifestyle and economy.
